For businesses

For spaces that need a real atmosphere.

UCNICNU is building a direct music option for small spaces that want original, ad-free, emotionally rich music without relying only on public platforms.

Early concept: $19/month for access to a private UCNICNU business music player.

Pricing, catalog size, and licensing details will be finalized before launch. Business-use access will apply to UCNICNU-owned catalog only. It is not a blanket license for third-party music.

Playing music in a business

What a space actually needs.

The questions owners ask before they choose anything. General information about how music licensing usually works — not legal advice for your business.

Can I play my personal music subscription in my business?

Usually not. Consumer music subscriptions are generally licensed for personal, non-commercial listening — the plan is for you, not for a room of customers — and playing one in a shop, café or salon normally falls outside that, whoever is paying for it. Check the terms of the service you use; they are explicit about it.

What does a business actually need in order to play music legally?

Generally two separate permissions: one for the recording you play, and one for the song underneath it. In the United States the song side is usually handled through performing rights organisations — ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR — and commercial background music services bundle both so a business signs one agreement instead of several. This is a general description, not legal advice, and the rules differ by country.

How is UCNICNU different from a background music service?

UCNICNU writes, records and owns the music it makes. The recording and the song come from the same place, so business use can be licensed directly rather than assembled from several rights holders. It also means the catalogue is small and particular rather than endless — which is the point, if you want a room to sound like somewhere rather than like everywhere.

Is it available now?

Not yet. The player and the commercial-use licence are being built and the catalogue is being recorded. Pricing and licence terms will be settled before launch, and nothing is charged before then. The launch list is the only way to hear when it opens.

What kind of music is it?

Four lanes: melody-first instrumentals with no vocals to compete with conversation, jazz and lounge, cinematic atmosphere, and soulful background music. All of it original UCNICNU work, written to hold a room rather than to be the centre of it.
